Leadtrees are evergreens native to tropical areas of the Americas. They have characteristic, fluff-ball-shaped white flowers. Leadtrees are harvested for a variety of uses - livestock fodder, green manure, firewood and charcoal source, and bead making (from seeds called jumbie beans). They are also planted in some areas for soil conservation.
Water:
Leadtrees thrives in fluctuating wet and dry environments, requiring watering every 1-2 weeks. Preferring well-draining soil, it is often grown outdoors to take advantage of natural rainfall. Its deciduous nature helps it conserve water during dry periods by shedding leaves.
Propagation:
Propagation of leadtrees is primarily through seeds and also via cuttings. Key requirements include full sun, warmth (18-25°C), and well-drained soil. Scarify seeds with boiling water, maintain moisture, and transplant seedlings when stable. Cuttings root under similar conditions.
