Melicope is a genus of about 230 species of shrubs and trees in the family Rutaceae, occurring from the Hawaiian Islands across the Pacific to tropical Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Water:
Derived from areas with sporadic rainfall, melicope exhibits excellent drought tolerance, needing watering every 2-3 weeks. Preferring outdoor settings in dryer climates, melicope effectively stores water in its structure during the growing season to maintain vitality.
Propagation:
Melicope propagates through seeds, softwood cuttings, and air layering, requiring stratification for seeds. Successful propagation demands well-draining soil, warmth, and indirect light. Cuttings should be taken in spring, treated with rooting hormone, and kept humid at 20-25°C until roots develop. Difficulty is moderate.
