Water:
Water licorice marigold regularly during planting, especially in sunny conditions. Once well-established, they tolerate drought. Weekly watering is ideal for vibrant blooms, while environmental conditions dictate timing and amount. Prevent root rot by avoiding water accumulation, and mist seedlings in heat to maintain soil moisture.
Fertilize:
Licorice marigold is adaptable and needs no additional fertilizer unless soil is barren. To enhance blooming, apply topdressing with Compositae fertilizer in the evening before and during summer blooms. Post-bloom, a 0.5% monopotassium phosphate spray can be used on leaves.
Pruning:
Licorice marigold thrives with regular pruning, particularly deadheading and removing leggy stems, to enhance bloom duration and shape. Optimal pruning occurs in early to late spring, improving air circulation and plant health. Cut just above a node to stimulate new growth for better results.
Propagation:
Licorice marigold can be propagated by sowing in spring or summer and through cuttings during summer. Cut a 3-5 inch tender shoot, remove lower leaves, plant in soil, water, and shade until roots develop in two weeks, then move to sunlight for blooming in about one month.
