From Ground: Water the kippernut plant to help loosen the soil. Gently dig a perimeter around the plant with a garden fork, going wide to avoid damaging the roots. Pry the plant carefully from the ground, retaining as much of the root ball as possible. If the plant is large, use a spade to slice underneath the root ball and lift it onto a tarp or wheelbarrow.
From Pot: Start by watering the kippernut plant to moisten the roots. Turn the pot on its side and gently tap to loosen the soil's grip on the pot. Slide the plant out carefully, supporting the stem and root ball, to prevent damage.
From Seedling Tray: Moisten the soil in the tray to make the removal easier. Use a spoon or a special seedling tool to lift the individual kippernut seedlings out from their compartments, being careful not to damage the young roots.
