From Ground: First, water the adzuki bean plant on the previous day of transplant to soften the soil. The next day, dig a wide trench around the plant using a shovel or spade. Make sure not to damage the plant's root ball, and carefully work the spade under the root ball to lift the plant from its original location. Keep the removed plant in a shaded area until ready for transplanting.
From Pot: If the adzuki bean plant is in a pot, water it well before transplanting. Overturn the pot gently and let the plant come out, tap gently to loose the soil around the roots without damaging them. Be careful not to pull the plant forcefully out of the pot.
From Seedling Tray: With seedlings, it's important to be very gentle to avoid damaging the young roots. Use a trowel to lift each seedling out of its cell, handling it by its leaves to avoid damaging the stem. If the root ball does not come out easily, gently tap the bottom of the tray until it does.
