Actinidia are a genus of woody vine. Its was domesticated as a fruit crop in the 20th century. It is native to the continent of Asia with some varieties being inedible. All varieties do well as a climbing plant on walls, fences, and trellis. They may attract animals like cats, deer, or rodents.
Water:
Actinidia requires moderate moisture and should be watered once every three weeks to ensure optimal soil hydration. It tolerates brief dry spells and is typically grown outdoors, thriving during wetter periods aligned with seasonal rainfall to maximize water uptake.
Propagation:
Propagation of actinidia is achieved through seed sowing, semi-hardwood cuttings, or grafting, requiring warm conditions (20-25°C) and well-draining soil. Scarification and stratification enhance seed germination. For cuttings, use rooting hormone, provide humidity, and maintain moist soil. Difficulty varies, with seeds being more challenging.
