Rama rama (Lophomyrtus bullata) is a shrub that offers plenty of ornamental appeal with its bushy shape and unique leaves. The scientific name bullata means blistered and refers to the plant's striking two-colored leaves, which have an unusual blistered appearance. Unfortunately, this plant is now severely threatened by a fungus called myrtle rust (Ustropuccinia psidii) that only arrived in New Zealand in 2017.

Water:
Rama rama flourishes in conditions similar to its natural habitat, tolerating intermittent drought. Watering should be every 2-3 weeks, allowing soil to dry slightly. As an ornamental indoor plant, it thrives in higher humidity, promoting its evergreen quality and enhancing leaf luster.
Fertilize:
Rama rama thrives with balanced nutrition fertilizers applied quarterly, with high nitrogen for foliage growth. Fertilize moist soil to avoid root burn and adjust frequency based on seasonal growth. Wear gloves for safety and monitor plant response for necessary adjustments.
Pruning:
Rama rama features attractive leaves and colorful foliage. Prune in early to late winter, removing dead or crossing branches to promote airflow. Regular thinning enhances growth. Avoid heavy pruning outside dormancy to reduce stress, ensuring a healthy and appealing plant throughout the year.
Propagation:
Rama rama is a native New Zealand shrub with attractive bubbled leaves and a reddish-bronze hue. Propagation can be achieved using semi-hardwood cuttings from healthy plants, applying rooting hormone in a well-draining medium under high humidity until roots establish.
