False peyote
False peyote (Lophophora diffusa) is a rare succulent that thrives in a tiny region of desert in Mexico. This cactus produces fuzzy-looking tufts instead of spines. It is over-collected because it is easily confused with its cousin, Peyote, however the false peyote has no effect on humans.

Soil Type
Water: False peyote is a succulent suited for arid conditions, storing water in its tissues. It requires infrequent watering, approximately every three weeks, and prefers well-draining soil. During the growing season, monitoring soil moisture is crucial to avoid root rot from overwatering.
Fertilize: For false peyote, apply balanced Succulents and Cacti Food monthly at quarter strength during spring and summer to promote health and growth. Cease fertilization in fall and winter as false peyote enters dormancy. Ensure even soil distribution and avoid over-fertilization to prevent damage.
Pruning: False peyote requires minimal pruning. Focus on removing wilted flowers and branches to ensure the plant directs nutrients toward healthy growth.
Propagation: False peyote can be propagated using cuttings by selecting a healthy segment and allowing the cut end to callous before planting in well-draining soil. Keep in a warm, dry environment with minimal watering until roots establish, requiring patience for successful growth.
Repotting: Repot false peyote every 2-3 years in spring using a slightly larger, shallow pot with proper drainage. Avoid watering for a week post-repotting and place in bright, indirect light to maintain its health and unique appearance.
