Home > Question
Is common groundsel invasive?
Common groundsel produces a great number of seeds that are easily dispersed by wind. Considering it has three generations per year and that a single plant produces 1700 seeds on average, controlling the spread of common groundsel in new areas is almost impossible. Besides being carried by the wind, seeds can be also spread by attaching to clothes and animal fur. Luckily, common groundsel is not a strong competitor and won't reduce crop yields, or have a significant effect on ornamental species if the plants are already developed and not under stress. However, there are some exceptions - for example, mint production can suffer significant yield losses due to the presence of common groundsel.
