From Ground: Begin by
watering ohio buckeye to dampen the soil. With a shovel or garden spade, dig a wide trench around the plant while ensuring the plant’s root ball remains unaffected. Slowly work the tool beneath the root ball to extricate the plant from its current location. Once the roots are exposed, scoop them up with care and place the ohio buckeye in a wheelbarrow or plant pot for safe transport.
From a Pot: Water ohio buckeye before starting the removal process. Invert the pot to let the plant slide out along with the soil, avoiding unnecessary manipulation of the root ball. If the plant is stuck, tap the sides or bottom of the pot lightly to dislodge it or slice the root ball gently with a knife for plants with pot-bound roots.
From a Seedling Tray: Pour water into the tray to loosen the soil and roots. Handle the seedlings by their leaves and not by their fragile stems, gently coaxing the ohio buckeye seedling out from the tray by lifting from underneath with a flat tool like a butter knife.
