How do you propagate hairy-stem gooseberry?
A common method of propagating hairy-stem gooseberry is from cuttings. Select a strong, vertical, one-year-old basal shoot with a length of 15 to 20 cm, which has at least two plump buds. If you are planting it in the spring, cut the branch before budding. If you are planting it in the fall, cut the branch after the leaves have fallen.
Plant the cutting immediately. Water the soil thoroughly for the branch to root. Insert the cutting into the soil, leaving only a top bud above the soil. If you are doing this in the fall, add some mulch after planting the cutting to protect it over the winter. After planting the cutting, you will need to check it frequently to make sure the soil is moist and loose. Usually, it will take root within 2-3 weeks. You can gently pull the cutting to check whether it has rooted.
