Is purple nightshade poisonous?
Like many other species in the Solanaceae family, all parts of purple nightshade are poisonous, especially its unripe fruit. Its toxicity comes from solanine and ethanol-alkaloid that are considered poisonous to humans, but only mildly. Its greenish-yellow fruit may seduce children to eat it. If symptoms of discomfort show after mistaken consumption, please see a doctor in time. The symptoms of poisoning include discomforts in: 1. Cardiovascular system (tachycardia, arrhythmia, low blood pressure); 2. Central nervous system (agitation, paralysis, stupor, convulsion); 3. Gastrointestinal tract (nausea, emesis, diarrhea).
